With technology becoming more and more of a prevalent part of modern life, it’s much easier than ever to for education to spread across the globe. At Idaho Medical Academy, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to make becoming an EMT as easy and flexible as possible, offering both in-person, online and hybrid classes. While all three of our classroom settings feature the same curriculum, each one is best suited for a specific learning style. Here is a quick breakdown of our options to help determine which works best for you.
In Person Classes:
We offer traditional, in-person classes for those who enjoy learning in the classroom with other students. This is beneficial to those who like to meet with their instructor face to face and want the ability to ask questions about the material in real time. This also has the added aspect of bonding with other EMT students and making in-person connections with others entering the field. This option features classroom lectures, lab days, clinical experience, group projects and much more. Our in-person classes are held at our campus in Boise, Idaho.
Online Classes:
Students also have the option to take the course entirely online. This is especially ideal for those who are in another city or don’t have time for a commute to campus. Our online option is self-paced, meaning that students can work their way through the curriculum as fast as they feel comfortable. This allows those already familiar with the material to finish the course faster, while students that need more time to learn can take advantage of it. At Idaho Medical Academy we allow up to a year for students to complete the course, but students usually finish in approximately three months.
Virtual students will have access to interactive study materials, lectures, instructor messaging, videos, and quizzes, along with a physical textbook that will be shipped to them. The online classroom can be accessed 24/7 and is designed to be identical to the traditional classroom experience combined with the flexibility of working from home.
At the end of the course, students will complete a four-day in person skills week, where they will demonstrate and apply the hands-on skills needed to save lives in the field. Additionally students will also complete an 8–12-hour clinical shift to gain experience and make connections in the EMS world.
Hybrid Classes:
The middle ground between in-person and online consists of our hybrid course. This fully virtual option is similar to the online course but is not self-paced and students are expected to keep up with the rest of the in-person class. Students will tune into the lessons via the latest technology, creating an immersive classroom experience. This allows students to ask questions and interact with the class in real time, making it the best of both worlds. Both the online and hybrid models will require students to attend the in-person skills week to demonstrate their knowledge and apply what they’ve learned.
When taking either an online or hybrid class, contacting your instructor is easy and can be done in a few different ways. You have the option to email them, send a direct message through chat or use live video conferences. This gives students the ability to easily ask questions or address any issues they need to.
Every student is unique and therefore, learns in a unique way. With this is mind, these courses are designed to give students maximum flexibility, no matter classroom setting they prefer. At Idaho Medical Academy, we are committed to creating ways for medical students to succeed, regardless of their location or learning style.
