Helping Rural Areas

At Idaho Medical Academy one of our goals is to be able to make a positive impact in our community. One of the ways we can do that is provide education to the more rural communities around us. In our last newsletter, we discussed the ever-growing need for EMS and had the chance to meet with legislative representatives. For this month’s newsletter, we wanted to highlight an area that will benefit from EMS training for years to come!

That place being Baker, Oregon where we were approached by Baker County Emergency Management to help train the smaller communities surrounding Baker City to become Emergency Medical Responders (EMR). EMR is a certification level before EMT. EMR’s play a vital role in rural Fire & EMS agencies. These agencies are primarily staffed by volunteers from their own communities. EMR can provide the initial steps of emergency medical care before paramedics arrive on the scene. Majority of the students have full-time careers and were looking to give back their communities.  IMA developed a customized EMR course to assist these rural agencies in becoming EMRs.

It was an honor to bring so many departments together and help train these amazing individuals and be a part of their journey. We wanted to say thank you to everyone that was involved in making this course a success and make their communities a safer place to live. A huge shout out to these Baker students for stepping up and taking time out of their lives to give back to the community. EMS thrives on a sense of togetherness and lifting each other up. We are so thankful to be part of such a great organization across America!
